​This strategic position is responsible for software development and solution architecture governance. Director of Software Development guides development teams in the creation and maintenance of custom software and integration solutions for the enterprise and logistics divisions. The position is responsible for analysis of current software solutions and recommends changes to platforms, systems, and processes, to create scalable solutions for the organization. This leader with vision will design, champion, and deliver transformational software solutions, providing both efficiency gains and accelerators for business unit growth.

The ideal candidate has a high degree of business insight with demonstrable ability to lever a technical practice, which drives competitive advantage. As a focused business and technical leader, they will lead from a place of experienced authority and lead by example thru their willingness to roll-up their sleeves to get the job done while actively crafting systems, processes and procedures which scale to meet the needs, risks, challenges and opportunities of a high-growth organization.

They will interact with a broad range of stakeholders and external/internal customers, which will require them to possess a developed and demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical concepts in simple terms, which help educate and persuade others to support key IT strategies. They are passionate about standard methodologies, operational excellence, and challenging the status quo in pursuit of best in class execution and achieving business success.

Strategic Duties:

Act as SME for application stack planning, Implementation and customization for transportation and logistics business units

Lead key technology innovation projects impacting systems both internally and externally facing. Contributing in the areas of infrastructure, software development and product development.

Participate as the lead solutions architect, lead technical author and thought leader for both software dedicated to logistics and enterprise teams

Create strategies for addressing technical business challenges and opportunities to gain unique business advantages

Management Duties:

Lead the software development teams dedicated to both logistics business units, ensuring common software development practices while leveraging common knowledge across the teams

Oversight of all HHG logistics software development, being responsible for quality and timely delivery of projects.

Lead developer and contractor selection, training, guidance, performance management and development to ensure department objectives, goals and performance standards for the department are met.

Operational Duties:

Act as senior solutions architect and development lead for all HHG software development projects

Provide technical thought leadership and subject matter expertise to drive software and systems development for transportation and logistics functions.

Work in partnership with PMO as both a technical resource for determining technical project requirements and as a development resource for the execution of projects.

Act as technical contact and systems authority for outsourced technology partners, working in partnership with PMO to drive project completion

Qualifications:

Education / Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field or equivalent experience

10+ years of information technology experience

5+ years in a leadership role

Experience working closely with business process owners on continuous process improvement and the application of technology toward this end

Skills and Competencies:

Agile Software Development/ Delivery via Scrum, Kanban, SAFe, and/or Continuous Integration and Delivery (CI/CD, CID).

Prior experience leveraging JIRA, Bitbucket, and/or other agile software development tooling.

Effective written and verbal communication in conjunction with training skills.

Ability to work multi-functionally with all levels of internal staff.

Highly organized, self-motivated; leadership style of continuous improvement.

Strong leadership presence with a high motivation to meet personal, team and corporate goals.

Experience designing and leading IT resources, budgets and return on investment analysis.

Exposure to the following development languages and platforms:

Languages: C#, Javascript, SQL, and North52.

Technology: Xamarin, WPF, Windows Services, ASP.NET Web Services, Blazor, Power Automated, Power Apps, Power BI.

Frameworks: JQuery, Kendo UI, .NET 2.0 - 5.0

Design Patterns: MVC, MVVM

Integration Platforms: SSIS & Scribe

Tech: Dynamics 365, Dynamics CRM, Dynamics Great Plains, SharePoint & OneDrive
